Description

Gapura Bajang Ratu or also known as Candi Bajang Ratu is a gate / temple heritage of Majapahit located in Temon Village, Trowulan District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java, Indonesia.

This building is estimated to have been built in the 14th century and was one of the great gates of the golden age of Majapahit. According to the records of the Mojokerto Archaeological Heritage Preservation Agency, this temple / gate serves as the entrance for a sacred building to commemorate the death of King Jayanegara which in Negarakertagama is called “returning to the world of Vishnu” in 1250 Saka (circa 1328 AD). But actually before Jayanegara’s death this temple was used as the back door of the kingdom. This allegation is supported by the relief of “Sri Tanjung” and the wing of the gate which symbolizes liberation and until now in the Trowulan area it has become a culture if mourning a dead person is required to go through the back door.
